Children’s sexual development is a normal and natural part of growing up, yet many professionals struggle to distinguish between age-appropriate sexual curiosity and behaviours that may indicate trauma, boundary difficulties, or harmful sexual behaviour. This practical training course equips professionals with the knowledge and skills needed to understand healthy childhood sexual development across different developmental stages, recognise concerning and harmful sexual behaviours, and respond appropriately in a trauma-informed manner. Participants will explore the factors that influence sexual development, including attachment, trauma, environmental influences, and exposure to sexual content, while learning to use sexual behaviour continuums and assessment frameworks to guide professional decision-making. Through detailed case studies, delegates will apply theory to real-world practice, strengthening their ability to assess behaviour objectively, support children effectively, implement appropriate safety measures, and make informed decisions regarding intervention, referral, and reporting.
